Kitchen Helpers

What? Vegan cooking requires different appliances?? No, lol, I just couldn’t come up with a better title!

Vegan cooking seems so daunting to people when they are starting out. The more you do it, the easier it becomes, like any cooking! I wanted to share a list of things I find to be super helpful and share what brands I use in my tiny home kitchen.

Small Appliances

Air fryer – what is an air fryer? It’s magical, that’s what! If you’re trying to cut back on the amount of oil you consume, this is your new BFF! There are lots of types on the market, some that only air fry. Due to our small kitchen, I chose to get the one with multiple options, to combine a few for space conservation. I went with Cuisinart (my only Cuisinart appliance – so far!) and got this one

Instant Pot – everyone needs one of these purely for the convenience! The idea of having a meal done in 40 minutes that would normally take hours is amazing! I will admit I use it mostly to make rice – it makes the perfect basmati in 4 minutes! (20 in total with natural release) and sushi rice in 20! It’s also amazing to throw in all the vegetables at the same time and they end up all cooked perfectly at the end! No more adding veggies at different times depending on how long they need to cook!

Food Processor – This is probably the most important appliance a vegan can own LOL. I use mine at least once a day. Due to it’s high use, I wanted to get a more professional one so it would last, however I haven’t been able to afford the one I truly want. So, after burning through a few cheap options, I went up just one level and landed on this one!

Lemon juice squeezer thingy – I’m sure it has an official name and you can use it with whatever citrus fruit will fit in it really. I swear by these as someone who sometimes battles eczema on my hands, squeezing the juice out of lemons or limes is NOT fun!

Deep Fryer – I never thought I would be adding this one! Since I’ve been cooking for others, and needing higher volume, I decided it was time, one week shy of my 41st birthday to finally buy a deep fryer. I’ve always been too worried I’d just deep fry everything! I bought one that takes a while to clean up, so that’s my best deterrent! However the foods, I’ve been able to make at 10 times the speed of manually frying them has helped so much! I ended up choosing one with two smaller baskets, so I could make two things at once. Air fryers are definitely becoming more popular then these, but for certain things (aka I just made vegan fried ‘fish’) it’s pretty epic

Hand/Stand Mixer – In a dream world, we’d all be able to afford a KitchenAid stand-mixer. It has been on my Christmas & birthday list for years! I’ve gone through many handheld mixers over the years, and recently purchased a dual one. It’s cute and matched my coffee maker & kettle and works for small batches. I use it mostly as a handheld one

There are so many other kitchen helpers out there that I don’t yet have, so won’t promote. Though things like, garlic press, sushi roller, steam basket, double broiler and a mandolin would all be helpful! I’ll add more if I come across other awesome ones!
